Job Posting Aquatics Director Waterfront Director/Assistant Waterfront Position Qualifications: Minimum of 18 years of age by camp start date (June 26th) for Director position or minimum of 17 years of age for Assistant Aquatics Director position Current National Lifeguard Certification (NL) mandaory Current L.S.I. – preferred Experience in a camp Waterfront Program Salary: Aquatics Director $3,400 for 7 weeks of camp (inclusive of meals and lodging)/ Assistant Aquatics Director $3200 About Camp Quin-Mo-Lac: Quin-Mo-Lac is a residential overnight camp for co-ed campers aged 7-14 years old, located on Moira Lake (halfway between Madoc and Tweed, north of Belleville). QML has 240 acres of land, mostly woods with some fields. We have 2 kms of shoreline and an island that we also use for programming. Our programs include crafts, music, canoeing, high ropes, low ropes, archery, orienteering, initiatives, swimming, rock climbing, hiking and overnights. Our campers stay for 1 week in either cabins or our lodge with a group of similar-aged peers and 3-4 counsellors. Work begins for our staff with a staff training on the first weekend of May and then a full staff orientation and training week that occurs June 26- June 30th. Staff spend camp weeks onsite and are housed in a staff cabin. Our staff come from all over Ontario (and beyond) and most return year after year. Camp Dates: Co-ed 1: June 30- July 4 Co-ed 2: July 4- July 11 Co-ed 3: July 15- July 22 Co-ed 4: July 22- July 29 Co-ed 5: Aug 1 – Aug 8 Co-ed 6: Aug 8 – Aug 15 Co-ed 7: Aug 18- Aug 25 Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Directors and Summer Camp Director, aquatics staff are responsible for ensuring the safety and full participation of campers and staff in all pool/waterfront activities. Position Responsibilities: To direct all pool/waterfront activities and support as required the canoeing program To initiate a strict water safety program in keeping with the standards of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and the requirements of the Lifesaving Society. To test and classify swimming abilities of camp staff and campers and utilize staff abilities to the best advantage in carrying out the pool/waterfront program in swimming, lifesaving, boating etc. To test, record and support the pool health as per the Ministry of Health requirements To lead and instruct the staff in emergency search and rescue operations. The procedures must be clear, workable and enforceable for the counsellors and campers. To make sure that all staff are knowledgeable of the pool and waterfront emergency procedures. To provide waterfront/pool emergency practice searches over the summer. Keep a record of all practices and the effectiveness of the practices. Detail any problems that require follow-up attention. To develop and operate a safe, well-planned program for the children in conjunction with the pool/waterfront assistants who will receive direction from you. To lead 3 Bronze Medallion (and possibly Bronze Cross) and four Emergency First Aid instructional courses in preparation for testing To supervise swimming sessions in conjunction with other staff. To immediately report all incidents to the Assistant Directors or Director and to follow up with a written report. To work in co-operation with the Assistant Directors and staff in planning waterfront events. To see that the waterfront and pool area are kept clean at all times of all obstacles which may create a hazard or appear untidy. Maintain all waterfront aids in good repair and always have them on hand. Ensure that only authorized personnel handle pool/waterfront equipment. Report damage and loss of equipment. To be responsible for the collecting, sorting, and laundering of the camp’s lost & found. To take a general interest in the total camp program and be part of the extended camp program during the day & evening. To be part of the overall camp program as assigned and as expected regarding camper supervision, campfires, vespers etc. To participate in an evaluative process twice in the summer To take an inventory of waterfront/pool equipment at the close of the season and submit a report with recommendations.
