The engineering team is responsible for creating efficient and practical designs, working closely with architects and our own detailing and management teams. Shop floor and site teams rely on our engineers for designs which are efficient to fabricate and erect. We use the latest in FEM software (RFEM) to analyse and design our buildings, and parametric design tools (Grasshopper) to optimize the complex structures we are often involved in.We are passionate about what we do and enjoy spending time together both inside and outside the office with regular team events being opportunities to strengthen the group as well as share the colorful cultural expressions of our diverse group.Role DetailsConcept scheming and sketching to create innovative structural solutions with architects and designers.Leading involvement in client meetings and facilitating creation of creative solutions to design issues and challengesProviding engineering reports to clients, structural advice on the construction and design of projects and devising modifications as necessaryPerforming concept level and detailed structural design and detailing, including calculations, sketches, and static/dynamic finite element modelling in both pre-construction and construction phases, under the mentorship of the Engineering ManagerLeading and managing the work of junior engineers, drafters and designers, and performing quality control with assembly and fabrication teamsLiaising with internal project management, shop, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget, and meet fabrication and erection constraintsVisiting project sites across North America to monitor progress in accordance with projected timelines and safety standards and inspecting materials as necessary to ensure adequacyReviewing project requirements to provide estimates on quantities and costs of materials, equipment and labor and input on construction and development budgetsMentoring junior structural engineers and assisting in developing technical knowledge basePosition RequirementsBachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or a related Engineering Degree). P. Eng, P.E. or SE is an asset.At least 2 years of experience working as structural engineer (preferred 1 years of experience in timber engineering). Experience with seismic design in Canada / USA or abroad is an asset.Knowledge and use of Canadian, American, and European codes is an assetExperience with Finite Element software (SAP2000, R-FEM, ETABS), and significant experience with Excel (performing calculations).
