University of TorontoFaculty of InformationSessional LecturerSummer Term 2026 – Session F (May – June) MSL2306H – Special Topics in Museum Studies: Museum and Accessibility: Inclusive Museum Programming Course Description: Museum programming – live, discursive, performance rather than object based – is a site for inclusive community-engaged work which fuels other areas of museum practice, including exhibitions, collections, and leadership. This course uses the disability justice tenets to provide students with critical frameworks and discrete critical practices (tools, methods, strategies) for the design and implementation of accessible programs, driven by community needs and centering social justice approaches to stakeholder collaborations. Through this learning opportunity, students delve into histories and theories related to access and disability as frameworks for the development of programming that aligns with the needs and desires of folks from disability communities. Students participate in several projects designed to connect intellectual frameworks with the real life protocols of community-engaged practice. The course will feature several engagements with professionals, artists, and advocates from the disability communities in Toronto/GTA.MSL2306H – Special Topics in Museum Studies: Museum and Accessibility: Inclusive Museum Programming Estimate of the course enrolment: 35 Estimate of TA Support: None anticipated. Estimate of 75 hours with enrollment of 36 or greater. Allocation of TA hours, if any, will be based on enrolment numbers. Class Schedule: TBD. You are required to be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises in order to attend and perform your duties on University premises as of the Starting Date. Qualifications: Preferably candidates will have a completed, or nearly completed, PhD degree in an area related to the course or a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course. Teaching experience is preferred. Brief description of duties: Preparing course materials; delivering course content (e.g., seminars, lectures, and labs); developing and administering course assignments, tests & exams; grading; holding regular office hours.
