The Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) is an Ottawa-based marine industry association that represents the stakeholders that form the marine supply chain in the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, Coastal and Arctic regions. CMC’s membership includes major Canadian and U.S. shippers, shipowners, port authorities, terminal operators, and other service providers and stakeholders within the marine sector. Founded in 1959, CMC’s primary focus is advocating for government policy, legislation and regulations that recognize the marine transportation system's safety and environmental advantages and its significant economic contribution to the North American economy. Reporting to, and under the direction of the President & CEO, the Director, Government and Stakeholder Relations serves as the senior public policy voice of the Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC), working to promote recognition of the importance of the marine industry to the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, coastal and Arctic regions of Canada and the U.S. The position leads efforts to secure safe, sustainable, harmonized, and competitive policies and regulations that reflect the significant economic, environmental, and social contributions of marine transportation. They are a key member of the executive team, responsible for shaping and advancing the organization’s advocacy agenda. The role provides strategic leadership in developing and executing government and stakeholder relations strategies that support industry needs and CMC’s advocacy priorities. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a background in building strong, collaborative teams. Communicative and pragmatic, they will excel at building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. With a background in government relations or corporate communications at a national level, they will be adept at working in a team-based environment. Bilingualism is essential and experience working with indigenous communities is considered a strong asset. This is a publicly advertised job posting for an existing vacancy.
