When you are part of Magellan, you are part of the team Position Summary The Director of Government Relations is responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage with government officials, policymakers, and advocacy groups. The incumbent is tasked with creating and executing a capture plan that leverages Magellan’s existing capabilities, capacity, and future expansion opportunities to support government and defence-based contracts for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, Castings, Machining, and Engineering. This role involves monitoring governmental activities, acting swiftly to changes in policies, defense spending, and legislative developments, and ensuring the organization’s voice is heard in policymaking arenas. The Director is expected to build coalitions, foster positive relationships, and support the company’s business units by engaging with Canadian government agencies, business associations, and aerospace/defense companies. Compensation $170,000 to $200,000 Essential Responsibilities Develop and execute a capture plan that takes into account Magellan’s existing capabilities, capacity, and future expansion opportunities for government and defense-based contracts. Lead large cross‑functional teams to develop, interpret, and prioritize large government contracts, including aerospace supplier bid packages, resulting in fully compliant bids. Interpret engineering drawings and liaise with internal engineering and estimating teams to ensure customer requirements are fully understood. Collaborate with internal departments for a cohesive governmental engagement approach; monitor governmental activities and act swiftly in response to legislative developments. Gather intelligence on customers and competitors within the aerospace market to identify new opportunities for company growth. Build and maintain a database of potential new customers and industry‑wide contacts. Use market analysis to evaluate and prioritize customers where opportunities appear to exist. Introduce Magellan divisional manufacturing capabilities, including on‑site visits and key staff introductions. Promote the Magellan Aerospace organization through attendance at trade shows, conferences, and industry/government associations. Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field. Minimum eight (8) years of experience reviewing, monitoring, and/or negotiating contracts in the aerospace industry, with a strong understanding of the defense market. Demonstrated, sustained ability and reputation for winning complex government contract awards with values routinely exceeding $10 M. Knowledge of contract law, practices, regulations, policies, and techniques. Proficiency in contract development language, terms, conditions, and negotiation techniques. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with peers, employees, and customers. Skilled in enforcing and resolving contractual obligations and complex issues. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize and evaluate factors related to contracts accurately and impartially. Proficiency in interpreting policies and procedures and writing specific terms of conditions for contracts. Strong verbal and communication skills and an ability to accentuate positive outcomes. Ability to work well within the organization at all levels and to relate effectively with customers and vendors at all organizational levels. Benefits Competitive salary.
