Our offices are located in Calgary, AB. What role will you play in our team We are seeking a Data Scientist for Imperial’s Digital Accelerator's data science group who can solve business problems by leveraging machine learning, optimization and other analytical techniques in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, strategic partners and subject domain expertsThe Upstream Digital Accelerator (UDA) leverages the power of digital technologies to solve highly complex problems across Imperials' oil and gas operations spanning conventional, mining, SAGD and other thermal recovery methods.Operating within multi-disciplinary teams, ideas from the business are quickly actioned and converted to usable products.  To this end the UDA offers a fast-paced, exciting environment and access to a diverse set of problems.With access to massive data sets, immense computational power and challenging, previously unsolved problems, the UDA is an ideal place for a Data Scientist to push the boundaries of what they know and make real contributions.  Furthermore, the UDA encourages its members to showcase their work to the data science and engineering communities through publications, conferences and seminars. What you will do  Work as a member of the Imperial Digital Accelerator with a fusion team of highly talented Data Scientists, developers and opportunity managers, to unlock substantial value from operationsWork closely with the business teams to understand their goals, business problems and assist in identifying potential analytical and data science solutions and feasibilitySupport the full range of problem-solving activities including data wrangling, ETL pipeline development, rapid scoping level / exploratory data analysis, proof of concept solutions as well as end-to-end execution plans for scaling proven models and deploying into an operational environmentEnsure your models and analytics are tested with the end users and iterate to deployable adoptable solutionsCommunicate key metrics and results to stakeholders, as you progress through delivery leveraging visualization tools as appropriate for effective story tellingContinue model / tool support in operational phases, including model performance monitoring and retrainingKeep up to date with the latest advances in the data science field and actively participate in data science communitiesConduct peer reviews with the data science team to ensure high-quality productsHelp mature ML Ops framework and adoptionWork closely with the platform and data infrastructure team to ensure data science needs are properly considered in architecture and data pipelines are robustAbout you Skills & Qualifications: Experience in advanced analytics and data science solving academic and or business problemsDegree in machine learning, computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, economics, operations research or related quantitative fieldBroad array of ML and AI skills (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning and mathematical optimization) Strong Python programming skills, additional benefit for Pyspark and Databricks experience Preferred Qualifications/Experience: Ability to explain data science solutions and concepts to the end users  Strong mentorship skills, and enthusiasm for sharing knowledgeAbility to effectively iterate and communicate results to stakeholders and team members using appropriate visualization and communication toolsPreference for domain knowledge in energy and mining industrial processes Start date: May, 2026 Work term: 18 months Location: Calgary, ABOther Considerations For applicants selected to be interviewed, pre-employment background screening will be requiredWe thank all those who apply; however, only those candidates selected for interviews will be contactedIn certain situations, Imperial may use your application to consider your suitability for other positions in the company and may also provide the information to its affiliates, including affiliates of ExxonMobil Corporation, in connection with possible opportunities at those affiliates Application deadline: Februray 12, 2026Stay connected with us Learn more at our websiteFollow us on TwitterFollow us on LinkedINLike us on FacebookSubscribe to our YouTube channel Imperial is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
