Established in 1949, the School of Nursing is the largest in Nova Scotia, offering undergraduate (Halifax & Yarmouth campus) and graduate programs (MN, MScN & PhD) that prepare nurse leaders, researchers, and clinicians. In addition, the School of Nursing has a 25 year partnership with Nunavut Arctic College offering a Bachelor of Science in Arctic nursing program in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The School of Nursing’s Strategic Plan, which aligns with that of the Faculty of Health and Dalhousie University, guides the realization of our vision of transforming healthcare through nursing education, research, and scholarship. The School is seeking a strategic leader who can provide sustainable and innovative academic and administrative leadership. Reporting directly to the Dean and working closely and collaboratively with the other members of the Leadership Team, the Director, School of Nursing plays a critical role working toward the strategic goals and missions of the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health and University.The ideal candidate will have experience in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders internal and external to the University. Evidence of a substantial contribution to academia through scholarship, administration and teaching should be demonstrated. Experience as a strategic leader and providing administrative leadership is required, as is interest in and/or experience with developing interprofessional collaboration and working towards reconciliation and addressing the TRC Calls to action in nursing education. Excellent communication skills and a history of building and leading collaborative teams are essential as are strong administrative skills with preference being given to those with experience managing human and financial resources within an academic or health organization/system environment. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse and eligible for licensing in Nova Scotia and hold a PhD in Nursing or a relevant discipline. Candidates who do not hold a PhD may be considered if they provide solid evidence of exceptional leadership in health care, academic teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, administration and a strong program of research. This five-year term position is expected to commence July 1, 2026 and may be renewed for a second five-year term. The successful candidate will be appointed into a tenure stream position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor depending on qualifications.
