A DAY IN THE LIFE…  Studies engineering drawings and blueprints, determines the materials required and plans the sequence of tasks to cut metal most efficiently. Prepares materials prior to assembly. Lays out reference points and patterns on heavy metal according to component specifications. Rigs, hoists and moves materials to storage areas or within worksite. Sets up and operates various heavy-duty metal-working machines such as cutting torches, grinders and drills, and punch. Fits up fabrication assembly to welding stage. Accurately torch cuts main members to size, if required. Details necessary pieces, if required. Installs fabricated components in final product. Completes quick precision layout of assembly. Completes housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area on a daily basis and/or when required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of work experience in the trade required. Some college or industry courses in welding are considered an asset. Interprovincial trade certification (Red Seal) an asset. Possesses a solid understanding of welding symbols.  Ensures all required CWB qualifications are current. Experienced in creating left hand assembly from right hand views Possesses the ability to read both Metric and Imperial measurements.  Possesses proper rigging and overhead crane skills.  Experienced with material handling of fragile tack assemblies (long loads and tight turns) Possesses solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.  OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must have own transportation as location is not accessible with public transportation. Must supply basic hand tools. Must have CSA approved steel-toed boots Overhead Crane certification is an asset.
