This position increases newcomers’ knowledge of community resources available to them and enhances local community’s awareness of needs and issues faced by newcomers and immigrants. This position serves newcomer clients in person as well as through e-services and ensures that all program goals, statistics and outcomes are met.What You Will DoProvides one on one needs assessments, information and orientation, group programs and referral services to newcomers and their families and links them with community resources in housing, healthcare, education, languages development, employment, career development, and recreation.Provides supportive counselling and crisis intervention.Uses PIE model to capture intake, needs assessment, settlement plan, evaluation and follow up activities.Keeps abreast of all immigration and government services related changes to ensure service quality.Provides services at satellite sites.Plans, implements and evaluates a program plan that provides a range of opportunities, available to newcomers and their families, in the areas of settlement, employment, languages classes, bridging programs, computer training, housing, childcare and other services.Actively works with schools, libraries, community organizations, recreational centres, faith organizations, local employers, health and family centres, local immigrant groups, malls, ethnic media and websites to maximize newcomers and immigrants’ access to resources, and to enhance capacity for services.Collaborates with other units to enhance outreach capacity.Ensures that promotional materials are created, updated and distributed, and outreach activities are conducted as planned.Works with other WoodGreen staff to ensure on-going collaboration and co-ordination within the organization.Ensures that all client data are entered to database and iCARE accurately and in a timely manner.Maintains a database for client contacts and service profile.Creates and maintains a data base for community contactsMonitors and documents outcomes of all services including compiling client success stories.Reports all program related activities to the manager on a regular basis.Attend community meetings, activities and events, and actively promotes WoodGreen in a professional manner.Participates as part of the Family Settlement Service in developing and implementing unit goals and objectives.Engages in training and education to upgrade skills as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.Maintains all aspects of confidentiality relating to community partners, community members and clients.Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.Is responsible for representing the unit on internal staff committees as directly by the Unit Director and the Manager of Family Settlement Services.What You Bring to the TeamBachelor's degree in social sciences, Education or a related disciplineMinimum of two (2) years’ experience working one-on-one to provide settlement services to newcomers including refugees.Preference will be given to candidates who speak Bengali, due to program needs and to support service delivery for Bengali-speaking clients What Will Set You ApartFamiliar with the needs and issues of newcomers, immigrants and refugeesStrong knowledge of resources for all newcomers, including refugeesExperience working with low-income, multi-racial, multi-lingual immigrant and refugee communities.Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and effective communication with clients, staff, volunteers, and agency partners.Cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds.Demonstrated experience in case management and supportive counseling.Strong intake and assessment skills; demonstrated information and referral skills.Experienced in workshop development and facilitation.Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate in a team and cross team.Strong organizational/planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.Strong technology and documentation skills to inform program and meet organizational and funder requirementsAvailable to work weekend and evening hours and at multiple sites.WoodGreen is an equal opportunity employer.
