For more information, follow Telesat on X and LinkedIn or visit www.telesat.comThe System Design team works closely with System Modeling and System Engineering to design and develop the Lightspeed constellation end-to-end system, covering several key aspects such as end-to-end communication, system and radio resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled System Engineering Specialist to join our team. As a System Engineering Specialist, you will use your expertise to support all activities of the design and development of the Lightspeed constellation system.Main ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define Lightspeed system architecture, system requirements, and network element (including satellite) specifications, ensuring alignment with project goals and customer needs. Leverage modeling capabilities from System Modeling to validate candidate key operating concepts, and work with System Engineering to define and validate requirements.Contribute to the design and development of key aspects such as end-to-end communication, system and beam-hopping radio resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers in the System Design team.Develop and maintain Lightspeed system architecture documentation, including subsystems definition, interfaces, and data flows, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the system.Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the satellite industry, and contribute innovative ideas to design and operation of the Lightspeed constellation system.Create and maintain documentation as required.Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as required to ensure project success.Education and Experience RequiredBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.14+ years of proven experience in satellite system architecture and designStrong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systemsExperience with software defined satellite communication payloads.Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standardsSpecialized Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCreative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail.Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.Strong leadership and communication skills.Excellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation. Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.Equipment UsedComputers running Windows and LinuxDecision Making and SupervisionIn this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the Lightspeed system design.This role has no direct reports.
