Title Parks & Recreation Labourer (seasonal) Job Status Seasonal, Part-time Contract May to September Wage $17.24 per hour (Level 1) (2025 rates under review) Hours 0 to 40 hours per week Days, evenings, weekends, holidays Reports To Parks and Recreation Superintendent Location Must be able to work in both Belmont, and Port Stanley, and other Central Elgin park locations Status Vacancy Unionized Yes POSITION SUMMARY : Responsible for the onsite operations of arenas, parks, park facilities, beaches, public washrooms, playgrounds, sports fields, flowerbeds, etc. within the Municipality of Central Elgin. This position performs a variety of manual labour tasks to ensure parks and recreation areas are safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors. RESPONSIBILITIES : Maintains the recreation buildings in clean, safe and attractive condition - perform cleaning and minor repairs to all recreation facilities. Performs maintenance and beatification duties on municipal properties (i.e. beach, downtown, parks). Collect garbage and litter from parks, trails, playgrounds, sports fields, and other public spaces. Empty waste and recycling containers and transport materials to designated disposal areas. Clean and sanitize public washrooms and park facilities, including restocking supplies. Perform minor grass cutting, trimming, and edging using hand and power tools. Assist with general grounds maintenance such as raking, sweeping, and debris removal. Receives rental payments from users of recreation facilities and assists with the booking of these facilities. Set up and tear down of events throughout recreational facilities and ensure that users are accommodated and that requested equipment, and furniture is provided. Maintains accessibility to users during events; provides assistance when required. Follows all health and safety practices and procedures. Reports unsafe conditions or work to supervisor. Perform additional related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS : One to two years of experience preferred. G2 driver’s license is an asset Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions. Must have good attendance and reliability. Follows all safety rules and maintains a strong safety record. Completes work to meet the required quality standards. Ability to operate basic landscaping and maintenance equipment (training provided) Basic computer skills required. Must be able to read and write and keep accurate records, understand and be able to respond to both verbal and written instructions. Works effectively both independently and as part of a team, able to accept direction and complete tasks with limited supervision. Responsible for effectively communicating with team members, supervisors, and the public, using oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Interact with the public and coworkers in a professional and respectful manner, using good judgment and staying calm in stressful situations. PHYSICAL SKILL AND EFFORT REQUIREMENTS The ability to walk or stand for long periods of time. Lifting, carrying, or moving heavy objects (typically 25–50 lbs or more). Climbing, bending, or kneeling frequently. Tolerating outdoor conditions and varying weather such as but not limited to snow, rain, heat, smog, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to varying weather conditions and rugged terrain. Will be required to work varied hours including weekends, and holidays.
