Seasonal Sportsplex Labourer

Job DescriptionOur Recreation and Culture department is hiring for a Seasonal Sportsplex Labourer to work from May to August, 2026. This position is primarily focused at the Crosslink County Sportsplex but may be allocated to other locations on occasion. The Sportsplex consists of two softball fields, one baseball field, 3 junior soccer fields, one full size soccer/football field, fishpond, playground, and maintenance shop. The Sportsplex Laborer will be responsible for general mowing and maintenance tasks for these areas. This role will report to the Sportsfield and Cemeteries Specialist and may require the position to work alone periodically with check-ins at predetermined intervals to their supervisor to ensure safe work practice.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Safely operate trimmers, mowers, tractors and other equipment to cut lawns and sports field grass at the Sportsplex.Safely operate all other equipment such as one ton dump truck, pickup truck with trailer, tractor, riding mowers (zero turn and wide area mower), utility vehicle (Gator), Tool Cat, push mower, brush saw, rototiller, hedge trimmers, line painter, leaf blower, post remover, water pump and various hand tools. Training will be provided as required to ensure competency and compliance with County Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).Perform daily maintenance on two softball fields and one baseball field. Assist in routine maintenance and repair of all equipment used.Assist with litter clean up, brush cutting, grass repair, rototilling, painting, and general maintenance.Cut trees, trim branches, rake leaves, apply fertilizer and insecticides by hand, and water public lawns, trees, and shrubs.Some assistance with plant maintenance duties may consist of weeding, planting, watering, pruning, rototilling and site cleanup.Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and maintain records as directedAssist the Sportsfield and Cemetery Specialist with cemetery duties and visual inspections of playgroundsEngage with members of the public and third parties in a friendly and professional manner.Participate in Recreation and Culture community events as requiredOther duties as assignedQualificationsValid Class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstractMinimum one year of experience operating lawn maintenance equipmentAssistant Pesticide Spray ticket would also be an assetPrevious experience operating small engine machines or lawn maintenance equipmentBaseball experience or maintenance of baseball facilities is an assetAdditional InformationThis position works Monday to Friday for 40 hours per week from 7:00am – 3:30pm.
