Social Workers are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their environments, which are integral to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and are the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Social Workers build upon the strengths of patients/clients by focusing on existing coping strategies and problem-solving skills, past successes, and personal resources.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following: Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a recognized universityCurrent registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social WorkersTwo (2) years post BSW related clinical experience requiredKnowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Previous experience working in adult community mental health preferredDemonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approachFamiliarity with various evidence-based treatment approaches for use with people with severe and persistent mental illness, such as Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Motivational InterviewingDemonstrated experience with group facilitationAbility to complete biopsychosocial assessmentsExcellent communication skillsAwareness of local community resources and agencies would be considered an assetAbility to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organizationDemonstrated comfort and skills working collaboratively with community partnersCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferredMinimum two (2) years of clinical experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of experience may be considered for the selection process.
