DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provides leadership to plan, develop, evaluate, coordinate, and implement proactive programming in order to ensure effective student development.
  2. Researches, develops, and reviews programming and opportunities to align programming with Open Learning's strategic plan, in alignment with TRU's mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals.
  3. Manages and monitors a comprehensive database for reporting of students of concern including collecting and reviewing information to coordinate and develop individual cases and referrals.
  4. Works with omnichannel software to support student inquiries and needs.
  5. Consults and debriefs with faculty, staff, and administration, working closely with all relevant departments within Open Learning and across TRU; communicates referrals and actions to provide support for students.
  6. Coaches, advises, and supports students on appropriate study strategies and available resources and policies; connects with students via email, text, online, and paper.
  7. Develops information, tools, and resources for a diverse student population.
  8. Educates and promotes programming internally and externally.
  9. Recommends and collaborates to develop policy and processes with respect to student success and development.
  10. Designs, organizes and facilitates in person and online presentations and workshops related to student development and programming.
  11. Coordinates, prepares, and maintains documentation, records and reports including related budget and expense requirements.  This also includes reports on capturing OL student demographics.
  12. Works with institutional academic supports to build academic engagement activities and events that promote student learning and enhance student success.
  13. Monitors and manages student cases in consultation with referral responder and students; follows up on individual cases to ensure case completion.
  14. Develops and emphasizes community and university partnerships through collaboration of various events and activities to support academic student engagement and success.
  15. Consults with the student community and leadership and collaborates with on and off-campus supports to ensure the needs of students and best interests of the program are met. 
  16. Participates in relevant committee and working groups to initiate and build student academic engagement and success.
  17. Maintains currency in student development.
  18. Recommends projects, resources or other needs of learners studying by distance

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts or Education

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years' experience working with students; including:
    • Experience working with educational technology tools
    • Experience working with students whom are at-risk or require additional supports
    • Experience with one-to-one tutoring, academic coaching and/or orientation
    • Experience working with students/clients at a distance
    • Experience with social media tools or other omnichannel communication systems
    • Experience creating student engagement resources, such as newsletters, orientation resources 
    • Experience facilitating webinars, orientations or other synchronous engagement opportunities

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular contact with students who may require additional supports in order to be successful due to challenges they are encountering
  • Some off campus travel required for engagement opportunities
  • General office conditions; sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift weights up to 10 kg
     
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
