The EHB develops, implements and evaluates inspection services and programs, and is responsible for enforcement of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and Public Health policy. As a Public Health Inspector Trainee, you are responsible for working towards the practicum requirements set by both the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) and Ottawa Public Health. This includes applying to the CIPHI Board of Certification to certify as a Canadian public health inspector upon the completion of practicum requirements. Your goal is to become a certificed Public Health Inspector. This role involves learning and developing the necessary skills to achieve certification and to perform effectively in the field.  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of a 4 year university degree in a program of instruction approved by the Board of Certification with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors Enrolled in or completion of an environmental health program recognized by the Board of Certification (BOC) of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI)  Current student membership with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) with intent to sit Board of Certification (BOC) exam CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Access to reliable transportation is required.KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of health-related legislation Knowledge of related environmental health issues Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Self motivated Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills Good problem solving skills Capable of multi-tasking Ability to prepare reports, compile data and maintain records Ability to inspect establishments such as food premises and public pools, perform investigations, and record results of findings Must be familiar with CIPHI’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice Proficiency in Microsoft programs Ability to conduct inspections and investigations in different physical environments (e.g., indoors, outdoors) with consideration for personal safety (e.g., biological, chemical, electrical, environmental, and physical hazards) Core Behaviours Core behaviours define the City’s expectations of the behaviours employees should demonstrate in performing their work. Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated; This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
