NDE R&D Technician

Your JobDarkVision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a highly organized NDE Technician to perform the in-lab and in-ditch assessment to inform the validation and development of our newly launched pipeline inspection technology. This role encompasses benchmarking and communicating the performance of the novel technology for specific industry use cases. We are looking for someone who blends excellent organization, collaboration, and project management skills with the ability to quickly grasp complex technical information and communicate with cross-functional stakeholders (product, sales, research, and engineering).This role is mostly on-site and is based out of DarkVision’s head office in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, private showers, and more. In-the-ditch field work is required part-time, anticipated to be approximately 20%. Travel is required across North America.Our TeamDarkVision develops high resolution ultrasonic inspection technology for industrial assets. We engineer, develop and manufacture hardware and software to deliver pipeline integrity inspection reports that inform our customers of the condition and health of their assets. You will carry out industry best practices to perform non-destructive assessments of anomalies in pipelines. You’ll work at the forefront of technological advancement, validating and benchmarking new inspection tools and methodologies. You will also be trained in our analysis software. Your feedback and insights will help shape the future of pipeline integrity management, making inspection processes more accurate, efficient, and reliable.Through meticulous analysis and reporting, you will transform complex inspection data into actionable insights. Your clear communication will empower stakeholders—from product teams to executives—to make informed decisions that enhance asset reliability and operational excellence.NDE InspectionsPerform UT, MT, and VT NDE evaluations of pipeline anomalies in the lab and in the fieldUse PAUT, TFM, and TOFT ultrasound inspection methods to detect and size anomaliesEvaluate various anomalies in pipelines including but not limited to: hook cracks, SCC, laminations, metal loss, deformations, and complex interacting defectsMaintain inspection tools, UT equipment, probes, and consumablesComplete field reports, data logs, and digital documentationTesting ValidationWork closely with Research and Data teams to help understand and interpret NDE inspection results, data, reports, and other ultrasound datasets from internal and external sourcesHelp identify and specify requirements for test samples and test setupsConduct equipment setup, calibration, and system checksUtilize our data analysis software to provide an assessment of the resultsInspection ProgramsBe the subject matter expert on best practices of in-the-ditch pipeline inspection techniques and methodologiesHelp develop training materials and provide guidance to our Research and Analysis teams Be responsible for technical oversight and qualification programs of our analysis procedures, and ensure industry standards are metSupport continuous improvement of inspection techniques and workflowsCommunicationDistill the results into easily digestible reports and presentationsHelp distill and share industry standards for detection and sizing to the broader company Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)3+ years of relevant NDE experience ASNT NDT Level 2 or ISO 9712 Level 2 or CGSB Level 2 equivalent certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT)Valid driver’s license and ability to travel and work in remote field locations, including in the USAAble to pass background and drug/alcohol tests, as well as site-specific safety trainingWhat Will Put You AheadLevel 3 UT certificationsPhased array industry experience and/or certification for weld inspection (AUT, PAUT, TFM, and/or TOFT ultrasound inspection methods)Level 2 or 3 certifications for Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Visual Testing (VT)API 1169 or other pipeline construction/inspection credentialsIndustry experience with laser scanningAdditional relevant industry qualifications and certificationsExcellent communication skills, verbal and writtenStrong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detailValid TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification CredentialGeneral Salary RangeFor this role, we anticipate paying $80,000 to $120,000+ base salary per year.
