The Opportunity: The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Senior Operations Supervisor – Conventional Bus to fill a permanent full-time position. They will be responsible for the supervision and leadership of Transit Operations Supervisors (3) ensuring the safe, reliable, on-schedule operation of transit buses on prescribed routes, specialized service runs and charters. Guides subordinate staff members (130), to assist them in recognizing and taking appropriate steps to alleviate problem performance. Guides staff through the Work Expectation & Review process. Takes responsibility for the management of accident investigation. Ensures the satisfactory maintenance of all bus zones and related amenities. Observes and reports to the Transit Superintendent – Conventional Service problems dealing with service levels, passenger loads, routing, equipment maintenance, and passenger and operator complaints. Take appropriate action to deal with problems affecting service; assists Operations Supervisors with passenger conflicts as required. Within area of responsibility this position is responsible for accounts receivable and payable, policy and procedure development and the maintenance of payroll timesheets/reports. Acts as the Transit Superintendent in their absence. As our preferred candidate, you will have: High School Diploma Related Post-Secondary Certificate program such as Business Administration, Project Management, Transportation (Transit) and LeadershipSupplementary Personnel and Supervisory Management Training.Accident investigation – Level 1Minimum of 5 years of service in a supervisory capacity, preferably with transit supervisory experience in a unionized environment.Experience interpreting and applying Collective Agreements in a unionized environmentKnowledge of Operator training and evaluation procedures, public transit routing standards and Safety programs would be an asset.Ability to deal effectively with the public, maintain a good rapport with Operators, other staff, and an ability to handle public and operator criticism.Ability to work under very fast paced high-pressure scenarios, where on occasion, quick decisions and action are required to maintain service levels. Ability to write comprehensive and detailed reports.Excellent working knowledge of the windows based computer system as utilized by the City of Red Deer and as required for the function of the job.Light duty mechanical ability will be an asset.Must possess working experience of mass public transit concepts, safety, planning, training, other practices and equipment.Must have a high level of competence in dealing with human resource issues. Affiliation: Exempt Remuneration: $44.88 to $56.09 per hour ($87,843 to $109,804 per annum) Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with possible shift work and some evening and weekend work when needed.  Additional Information: We thank you for your application.
