POSITION SUMMARY:The Dietary Aid – Community Support Services (DA-CSS) assists in providing quality food services which enrich the health and well-being of clients. DA-CSS perform dietary and kitchen functions in a compassionate manner, promoting high standards of service, nutrition, hygiene and safety each day. Through their work, the DA-CSS contributes to individuals being able to feel independent in their living arrangements. The DA-CSS supports the Manager – Food Services in the effective and efficient delivery of program level food services, and in maintaining high standards of safety and person-centered customer service.CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssisting with ordering of dietary and kitchen supplies from food suppliers as neededFollowing all aspects of food safety, as per departmental procedures governing food preparation and sanitationAssembling prepared meals and unprepared mealsReheating and cooking meals, carries out pre-meal food preparation, including temperature monitoringSetting tables for diningAssisting customers who require physical support in diningMeal and grocery delivery to clientsProcess payment of meals through Credit card/and or debitFollowing all safety and food preparation policies and procedures established by SJHC Providing clean-up, including but not limited to, clearing and washing of tables, dishwashing, floor sweeping, garbage disposal, etcMaintaining appropriate records as per SJHC standardsReporting client concerns/issues and/or program related matters to the Manager or SupervisorAssisting with training co-workers as neededEngaging clients in positive/social conversations Demonstrating sensitivity and respect to clients who may be experiencing physical health challengesDemonstrating a positive attitude and approach towards customers as unique individualsAnswering customer questions in a friendly and polite mannerFollowing daily meal preparation schedules as determined by the ManagerMaintaining a clean, safe and organized work environmentParticipating in team/group meetingsOther duties as requested or requiredCORE COMPENTENCIESRegularly demonstrates our mission, vision and values:Support compassionate care, faith and diversityDeliver quality care, pursue and share knowledge, respect diversity, remain faithfulCommit to working everyday with dignity, respect, service, justice, responsibility and enquiryAbility to work cooperatively with others; sharing expertise and drawing on the expertise of others Actively promotes a healthy, supportive and inclusive work environmentProactively contributes to initiatives, supporting and encouraging positive changeAbility to demonstrate effective decision makingSkilled at thinking about creative solutions to everyday problemsSolid team based approach to every day work activitiesGood communication skills both verbal and written, with an excellent customer service mind setPositive and professional, with a “can do” attitudeWillingness to regularly go the extra mile and actively support co-workersAbility to follow direction and listen to instructionProven ability to be detailed orientedMaintaining on-going compliance to corporate policies and procedures, health and safety regulations, and relevant external standardsParticipating in both internal and external training requirements Participating in quality improvement initiativesMaintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all personal health records (including both client and personal), and following all the privacy and confidentiality requirements of any and all electronic medical record systems used (including but not limited to Procura and HPG)QUALIFICATIONS:Grade 12 Graduation Diploma or combined education and work experience, requiredDietary Aide Certificate or equivalent, preferredFood Handling Safety Certificate, required1 year previous experience in food service, preferredPrevious customer service experience, requiredPrevious experience in a hospital, retirement home or long term care facility, preferredPrevious experience with elderly/different abled customers, preferred
