Reporting to the Practice Lead you will support projects globally based out of our Mississauga location.  The development of innovative technologies is an important part of Hatch’s history and legacy. We’re a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.  In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. Our ultimate goal is to achieve no harm for our people, our clients, and our communities.Responsibilities:  Apply engineering principles and perform calculations for custom mechanical equipment, including thermal analysis of the linings of pyrometallurgical vessels, and fluid flow analysis of water and air-cooled systems Perform detailed design of custom mechanical systems used in proprietary Hatch smelting furnaces to maintain crucible integrity and life, deliver power and feed to the furnace, provide equipment sealing and environmental control, as well as molten product tapping and handlingAssistance on 3D model preparation as well as drawing productionEvaluate process alternatives and/or equipment/technology selection trade-off studies, including evaluation of suitable materials of constructionPrepare equipment specification packages and technical project deliverables, reports and presentationsClose collaboration with process, structural and electrical engineers and designers in the detailed design of custom equipment, including equipment design reviews, plant layout development and process hazard review studiesClient and site support, including field verification during construction and vendor fabrication assistance  Education and Experience: Must be working towards graduating in 2026, or recently graduated, with a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science from an accredited university in the Mechanical Engineering programBe eligible for registration as an EIT with a provincial engineering body upon graduation Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the communityPreferred academic courses include Solid Mechanics II, Advanced Momentum/ Heat and Mass Transfer, Control Systems, Machine Design, Structural Dynamics, Numerical MethodsWillingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes):Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects  Ability to learn quickly and driven to take on new challenges  Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challengesAdapts and embraces change Note: You must submit a transcript (official or unofficial) upon application to be considered for the role.  Why join us?Work with great people to make a differenceCollaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutionsTop employerWhat we offer you? Flexible work environmentLong term career developmentThink globally, work locally Don't meet every single requirement?
