LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH ROLE OVERVIEW The Physiotherapist in the Stroke Recovery clinic provides consultation, assessment, intervention, and education regarding patients with physical dysfunction, in accordance with the guidelines of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and the Hospital. This currently vacant position operates 0800-1600 shifts, Tuesday and Thursday weekly. Primary Responsibilities: Assess patient upon receipt of written stroke rehab referral from a registered medical practitioner and determine appropriateness of referral Complete assessment in a timely manner Develop and document an intervention plan based on analysis of assessment, secondary diagnoses and expected outcomes in consultation with the client/family/other health care providers Reassess individual performance and modify appropriately Determine treatment techniques and application of assistive devices in consultation with other health care professionals Developing patient centred treatment plans to meet or exceed goals of care Educate caregivers and family members in activities that support the intervention plan Maintain patient records as outlined by hospital/department policy and procedure, and consistent with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario guidelines Supervise/direct Rehab Assistants Maintains skills/knowledge by attending educational sessions and keeping informed of NHHs policies and procedures Models NHH philosophy and values Participates in clinics and activities as assigned May be required to support inpatient allied health team related to HHR and hospital demands QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS Completion of a university degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized University or equivalent Licensed to practice with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Member of CPA Professional Association preferred Post graduate manual therapy and NDT programs are a definite asset Experience working with stroke patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting preferred Excellent organizational and time management skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with patients, families, other and interdisciplinary team members Professionalism, and dedication to client centred practise Good decision making and deductive reasoning skills Demonstrated knowledge of technical and mechanical skills for operation of modalities and gym equipment Aware of their contribution to patient safety ensures actions to support patient safety culture New graduates will be considered PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS Attendance at safety training including fire safety, Safe Lifts and Transfers and W.H.M.I.S. training Utilizes Safe Lifts and Transfers procedures in transferring and repositioning of patients Reporting of hazards and incidents Critical thinking as it relates to patient acuity and multiple demands on time that will require prioritization of workload changes, delegation and management of competing priorities Work is performed in the rehabilitation gym space and associated allied health offices Staff may be exposed to bodily fluids and potential infectious diseases EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment. Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff. Northumberland Hills Hospital may choose to conduct parts/all the hiring process virtually.
