The City is committed to the professional development of our staff and invite you to come, grow with usReporting to the Manager of Water Operations, the Supervisor of Water Treatment, will be responsible for supervising the Water Treatment division of the Environmental Services Department. This position is responsible for efficient and economical operation of the water treatment system, meeting all the regulatory requirements and obligations and functions in accordance with the City s corporate Strategy. Responsibilities include but not limited to:Supervise day-to-day operations of the water treatmentMonitor performance trends, improve levels of service and implement best practices to improve performance and efficient use of treatment resourcesDirect and coordinate work scheduling for water treatment operators and operations analystDevelop and implement Standard Operating ProceduresDevelop, implement and manage staff training requirementsCollaborate with the Water Compliance to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulatory requirements and City bylaws, policies and proceduresImplement and oversee optimization of water treatment processesCollaborate with the DWQMS Specialist to ensure conformance to the standard and implement ongoing continuous improvement strategies within the water treatment systemRespond to emergencies when requiredAssist in administering contracts, chemical and equipment tenders and special projectsProvide input in preparing and managing operating and capital budgetsCoordinate closely with the Water Maintenance Supervisor to ensure overall improvement and optimization of the Water Maintenance and Treatment, and to plan and coordinate work involving both water treatment operations and water maintenance Oversee capital program including studies and construction projectsEvaluate and recommend new products and materials for incorporation into the City's water systems to improve performance and efficiencyProvide input with collective agreements and labor relations issuesMaintain a professional work environment and provide positive leadership by fostering long term growth and development of staff, coaching to maximize ability and providing feedback and support to produce sustained levels of successful performance Salary is currently under review Qualifications Must have successfully completed a three (3) year post-secondary diploma in Chemical, Environmental, Civil Engineering Technology and full membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or an equivalent combination of education and work experienceApplicant must have a valid Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Water Treatment Class 1 or higherPossesses a minimum of five (5) years of proven, progressive and increasingly more responsibility relevant work experience with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience of both union and non-union staff, preferably in a municipal environmentKnowledge of the chemical, biological and mechanical processes involved in the operation of water treatment system Proven leadership skills demonstrated through coaching, mentoring and being a positive role modelStrong report writing and project management skills, with the ability to achieve program objectives successfully while meeting tight deadlinesExcellent interpersonal skills coupled with highly developed communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to effectively communicate with the staff at all levels of the organization and with the public including highly effective negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skillsStrong ability to identify problems, develop and evaluate options and implement solutions utilizing reason, judgment, and prescribed resourcesProficient computer skills, including good working knowledge and application of MS Office, database, spreadsheet, power point presentation and e-mail software applications as well as electronic purchasing systemsCompetency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is requiredPerform duties as Treatment ORO and OIC as required and if qualifiedAble to manage multiple and changing demands and prioritiesFlexible and available to respond to work during afterhours including weekends as requiredPossess a valid Class G driver s licence in good standing during the course of employmentApplicants must also have knowledge of related legislative requirementsIMS 200 Certification or equivalent (ICS200) is considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within the first year of employment As a condition of employment, proof of current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications will be required.
