When emergencies strike, who do you call? The Protective Services team Day in and day out, rain or shine, they’re the first responders ensuring our residents are taken care of. Whether they’re fighting fires, upholding the law, or lending a helping hand in times of need, the Protective Services team is dedicated to keeping Beaumont safe and secure. Reporting to the Supervisor, Municipal Enforcement, the Community Peace Officer 1 (CPO 1) is responsible for responding to and investigating complaints within the City that involve the enforcement of Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Statutes. The primary responsibilities of the CPO 1 are a balance of Bylaw Enforcement, Traffic Enforcement, and Animal Control duties. The ideal candidate must demonstrate sound judgment, combined with strong ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information. Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as outstanding public relations, de-escalation and problem-solving skills are required for this role. What YOU’RE Responsible for: Receive and respond to complaints regarding municipal bylaws and provincial statutes, including animal control Communicate with involved parties to ensure a high quality of service Conduct thorough investigations, including paperwork and document collection Take appropriate actions, such as issuing fines and warnings, using discretion Conduct patrols and enforce traffic offenses and parking regulations Enforce provincial offenses, including alcohol/drug violations and dealing with intoxicated persons Identify and address violations of municipal bylaws, provincial statutes, or other safety concerns, including animal control Assist RCMP and other police agencies with emergency situations and calls for service Support Fire and EMS during emergencies and calls for service when requested Provide traffic/crowd control and assist with investigations at scenes, including traffic collisions and fires Assist City departments with document serving Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor or Director of Protective Services Ensure adherence to Legislative regulations, Safety Directives and procedures and all respectful workplace standards Report unsafe conditions and near miss incidents promptly Attend regular safety meetings and promote a positive attitude What YOU Bring: Post-Secondary Education in law enforcement, criminal justice, education, or related discipline, supplemented by two years of previous law enforcement experience as a Community Peace Officer 1 or member of the RCMP (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered) Must meet all requirements of Alberta Justice Solicitor General Department to obtain a Level 1 Community Peace Officer Appointment Prior experience with community and school-based programs with proven strong public relations experience is an asset. EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) or equivalent is preferred, mandatory completion as term of employment Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Minimum Class 5) required A 5 year driver’s abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior Applicants must have successfully completed an approved Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) with a time of four minutes and forty-five seconds (4:45) or better, within the past six (6) calendar months; other equivalencies will be accepted as per the Peace Officer program Ability to meet shift requirements – shifts may include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays RADAR/LIDAR certification required A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required Enhanced RCMP security clearance is an asset Intermediate/Standard CPR AED Level C Approved patrol boots Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office What WE Offer: A full-time position with a rate of pay between $37.57-$49.01 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) Employer paid Health and Dental benefits package Health Wellness and Learning Spending Account Membership to the Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre Enrolment in Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) 40-hour work week (shift work including evening and weekend work required) And an amazing team to work with If you meet these qualifications, please submit your cover letter and resume as one document by 9:00 AM on January 30, 2026.
