General Job Information JOB SUMMARYThis position is located in the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, Sports Division. This role will focus on budgeting, procurement, data analysis, and administrative support, while also leveraging prior experience in sports or recreation management to enhance program delivery and resource allocation.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms daily inspection of all equipment and facilities to determine degree of safety and security; brings attention to the supervisor of all detected hazardous conditions and initiates work orders for repairs. Coordinates safety inspections and maintenance of facilities and grounds.Provides high quality customer service to visitors of the recreation center by responding to comments, questions, and complaints and renders advice and guidance in personal situations. Prepares daily, weekly, and seasonal schedules of events, programs, and activities.Coordinates the use of the facility by outside groups and DPR programs and ensures that they adhere to the DPR policies and procedures. Plans, coordinates, and leads daily indoor and outdoor recreation programs and/or activities; secures and maintains all materials and equipment for assigned programs and/or activities.Ensures that all records such as attendance, program activities, volunteer participation, and special events activities are properly accounted for and reported.Prepares necessary documents and materials pertaining to assigned programs and/or activities including but not limited to promotional materials, certification books, and other mandatory forms.Supervises youth and adult athletic activities and helps to maintain order and discipline. Monitors the performance of volunteers, coaches, seasonal employees, and sports officials. Monitors DPR spaces inside and outside the recreation center during times in which direct program facilitation is not occurring. Plans, implements, and assists with special events assists supervisor in carrying out special assignments necessary for the completion of a special event or activity.Expands public awareness of recreation programs, services, and activities to attract participation and community support.Develops and conducts surveys of participates, communities, and the general public regarding recreation programs, services, activities, and facility operations; compiles data and make recommendations for existing and/or new programs, services and activities.Collects and reports fees collected at the center.Assists with volunteer work assignments and oversees the recruitments and supervision of volunteer workers.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONA degree with a major study in general recreation, or on to the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban or community recreation; special populations recreation (, senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.ORApplicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, or its non-District equivalent gained in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs and serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSThe incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.First Aid and CPR certifications are required within the first six months of hire.WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is within the context of operating a recreation center, in which everyday risks require normal safety precautions typical of gymnasiums, playing fields, and activity centers. The position may require working outdoors.OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTSTour of Duty: Varies, the incumbent must be able to work evenings and weekends.Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-0188-11Promotion Potential: No known promotion potentialCollective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFGE, Local 2741 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction. Residency Preference: When claiming residency preference, you are required, and must agree in writing, to maintain bona fide District residency for a period of seven (7) consecutive years from the effective date of employment. You will be required to present documents (proofs) to show District residency and failure to maintain bona-fide District residency for the seven-year (7-year) period will result in forfeiture of employmentPosition Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position.
