Join us in shaping the future and growing your career.We're looking for a Commercial Lines Senior Underwriter to join our growing team This position can be located in our Toronto, Mississauga, Ajax, London or Ottawa office. This role is a permanent full-time hybrid position that requires a minimum of 2 days per week working in your assigned office.What you'll do here:Develop long-term and meaningful relationships with brokers by providing legendary service and participating in broker visits, field underwriting, insurance industry functions, and marketing events.Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks, analyzing requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes and recommend innovative solutions.Coach and mentor team members to develop their technical underwriting knowledge and to enhance broker relationships.Help shape the future of Commercial Lines Underwriting by providing creative solutions on process or workflow improvements to increase efficiency and elevate best practicesProvide leadership to ensure that the regional underwriting service, production and profitability levels are achieved.Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with Company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits.Within your level of authority, quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of moderate to complex new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business according to the business plan established for the department.Arrange reinsurance if and when required.Work closely to develop and maintain positive business partnerships with brokers, reinsurers and co-workers.Use the computer system for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting and rating transactions.Some travel is required.What you bring to the table:Minimum 5 to 7 years of commercial lines underwriting experienceChartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferredCare for people by being supportive, providing candid feedback and recognizing performanceMaintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related theretoDemonstrate the ability to handle complex risksAwareness of local community conditions and insurance issuesSuperior organization and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlinesExemplary and proactive customer service skills to identify needs, effectively negotiate, and provide tailored solutions to brokersGreat communication skills (both written and verbal)Strong negotiating skills and business savvyInitiative and ability to work under pressureSound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer toolsNo Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.#LI-HybridWhat we offer Our hybrid work model provides the balance between working from home and enjoying meaningful in-person interactions.Working here means you'll be empowered to be and do your best every day.
