Security Clearance at the NATO Secret LevelPosition SummaryWe have a current vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer who will support all mechanical design related activities for TCDS Engineering to fulfill project requirements with respect to cost, schedule, scope and quality. Establish and maintain effective interfaces with Systems Engineering, CM/DM, V&V, Integration and all other TCDS groups to provide a cohesive solution to project goals, challenges and issues.Ensure that the Mechanical Engineering team contributes directly to TCDS success through innovation, competitive thinking & behavior, and the efficient application of process.Key Areas of Responsibility  Create project mechanical design CAD models, provide interface control between modules, subsystems and components, and perform compatibility and verification analyses.Under the supervision of senior P.Eng., perform mechanical compatibility analysis and interface to external support for stress, dynamics, thermal and other special engineering disciplines.Ensure that mechanical designs are practical, producible and efficient, and that human interface requirements are met where required.Work with other engineers to provide BOM updates, create or contribute to ECRs, design reports, installation packages and other design artifacts for all program stakeholders.Assist systems engineers with the decomposition and derivation of requirements as they relate to mechanical, environmental, installation and related systems and processes.Analyze, define and trace system requirements and recommend performance measures.Assist with the integration of procured systems in a multi-disciplinary environment.Support the definition and estimation of work packages.Assist in the verification and validation of electronic systems.Provide technical input to the RFP package, and analyse and evaluate RFP responses from suppliers.Assist with the establishment and maintenance of a project design baseline and provide drawings and layouts.Develop currency in engineering best practices, methodologies, initiatives and advancements.Continually seek out learning opportunities and develop new skills that will directly or indirectly benefit the team and TCDS as a whole.ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC TASKINGResolve issues related to Unsatisfactory Condition Reports (UCR’s) and Notification Defects (ND’s) for the Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) including the following:Research issues and technical data to create Options Analysis Presentation and Report that list solution optionsDevelop Engineering Change (EC) specifications (installation/Removal) and drawingsPerform heat load calculations for EC changes as requiredInitiate Technical Information Requests (TIR)Specify mechanical equipment for procurementDevelop requirements for ship surveysCreate estimates for equipment, material and labour (including sub-contractors)Self-manage all aspects of the EC changeCOMMUNICATION SKILLSWell developed verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums.Well developed writing skills to prepare effective reports, documents, etc. in a clear and concise format.The ability to present the department's position and effectively represent its interests.Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills needed to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with both internal and external people at any level.Effective negotiating skills.APTITUDEPresenting effective solutions to problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation.Making timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors.Minimum Qualifications  Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or systems engineering disciplines or equivalent education with relevant experience.Min 5 years of engineering experience in a mechanical, systems, etc. discipline, ideally in the defence industryHigh level of planning, task management, analytical, and time management skillsHigh level oral and written communication skills required for report writing and design justification documentationExperience in the Systems Engineering life cycle, including typical modeling tools for design such as Solidworks Mechanical or AutoCAD;P.Eng or Eligible to obtain P.Eng licensePreferred QualificationsComprehensive understanding of naval systems and design standards for commercial and naval platforms following IMO and Class requirements, Lloyds Register Rules & Regulations, IEC standards, IMO Regulations, SOLAS regulations, Transport Canada marine Acts and Regulations. These skills are expected to be developed;Experience in ship design, build, operation and maintenance;Experience with Canadian ship building requirements for shock and vibration, EMC/EMI, drawing standards and industry design standards.
