Laboratory Technician – Physical Rehabilitation

NATURE OF THE WORK:

The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists of assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, field work and workshops. In addition, the Laboratory Technician may also be called upon to assist the faculty with student assessments, the provision of a positive learning environment for the students, and in the Dawson College Health Clinic (DCHC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:Laboratory Preparation & Organization:
  • Prepare the lab according to the guidelines
  • Assist faculty for laboratory preparation and presentation of scheduled laboratories
  • Establish a practical laboratory schedule, in collaboration with the department chair
  • Prepare the laboratory for activities such as Open House, Student-for-a-day, etc.
  • Prepare and make laboratory course schedule recommendations to the department supervisor
Student Demonstrations & Assessments:
  • Assist faculty in the supervision and demonstration of clinical skills to students in the laboratory
  • Assist faculty in the supervision of students during examinations in the laboratory and classrooms
  • Informs the department chair and appropriate faculty of incidents related to professional conduct of students
  • Organize and schedule lab review sessions for out-of-phase students in January and May if necessary
Laboratory equipment:
  • Maintain the laboratory and equipment in a hygienic, clean and mechanical working order
  • Identify equipment problems and coordinate service calls
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and place orders when needed
  • Use purchasing software specific to Dawson College
  • Ensure a safe work environment at all times
Other responsibilities:
  • Prepare and/or coordinate the fitting of N95 masks for students if necessary
  • Assist with selective college events e.g. Open House, High School visits, registration etc., if requested
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

CONDITIONS:

  • Familiarity with the role of a physical rehabilitation therapist in a clinical environment
  • Advanced oral and written English communication skills (testing may be required)
  • Basic oral French communication skills (testing may be required)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (testing may be required)
