Applications are invited for the position of Building Inspector within the Corporation of the City of North Bay’s Building Department. Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the role involves carrying out the statutory duties of Building Inspector I or II, enforcing the Building Code Act and Regulations and other By-laws related to residential projects. Responsibilities include examining plans, issuing building permits, conducting inspections, maintaining records, investigating, and issuing Provincial offences Certificates and summons.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of Architectural or Engineering Technologist Program or related discipline
  • Completion of courses related to Bill 124:
    • Building Inspector I: Legal Processes and Responsibilities, The House, HVAC House, Plumbing the House
    • Building Inspector II: Eleven courses including Small Buildings, Detection - Lighting & Power, Large Buildings and Complex Buildings
  • Five (5) years previous related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, Provincial Offences Act and related documents.
  • Training in Ontario Municipal Law Enforcement and Ontario Property Standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction materials and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and vehicle available for use on the job.
Work Environment:
  • Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • Unionized Environment
  • Rate of Pay: $37.39 (Building Inspector I), $40.36 (Building Inspector II)
