Description

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Program Manager with accountabilities manager. Following established procedures, the Research Assistant will assist in the implementation of the project. The Research Assistant will be responsible for contacting and consenting participants, sending them collection kits, picking up and receiving biospecimens from the clinic, conducting telephone questionnaire, with occasional processing and aliquoting biospecimens.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ability to demonstrate assigned tasks are done on own initiative in a timely fashion and that results are beneficial to the success of the research project
  • Interviews and enters data
  • Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards
  • Contacting participants, conducting telephone and in home interviews, and ensuring collected data is submitted is accurate
  • Assist with patient recruitment and collection of patient consent forms
  • Assist with picking up and/or receiving biospecimens
  • Assist with processing of specimens when required
  • Good relationships are established and maintained with all research project members and participants
  • Ensure relevant research methodology is applied and proper handling of all research material is used

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post Secondary education required
  • Combination of education and education considered
  • Experience with working with the public is a strong asset
  • Experience and knowledge working in a post-secondary institution is an asset
  • Knowledge of health and scientific terminology is a strong asset
  • Knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word is a strong asset
  • Health services research experience a strong asset
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, staff, and research team members
