Research Associate, Department of Medicine

**Description**
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The research associate's primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and the research team by gathering data and developing a life cycle assessment and environmental impact assessment of four glucose measurement methods used in Alberta Health Services facilities.
This position is involved in a variety of analyses using different software and techniques, as required by the research team and Principal Investigator. The Research Associate will assemble data and prepare datasets. Success in the role will require some judgment and decision making, following procedures and guidelines set by the PI, and collaboration with the research team.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Obtain and use product information to create datasets for use in life cycle assessment
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to resource use, emissions, and waste generation
- Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
- Collaborate with transdisciplinary teams to integrate LCA findings into health systems decision-making
- Prepare technical documents, including creating tables and charts using templates
- Generate various reports as required by Principal Investigator and research team
- Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format data from various sources to prepare draft reports
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Bachelor Degree in engineering, chemistry, health sciences, medicine, or biomedical engineering is required
- Undergraduate degree required
- Graduate degree or relevant research work experience required
- Direct experience with life cycle assessment or environmental impact assessments is an asset
- Experience with data cleaning and data set preparation is an asset
- Experience with conference presentation or manuscript preparation is an asset.
- An interest in environmental sustainability or planetary health
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Skills in statistical software programs (eg. SAS, STATA)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability for professional report writing
- Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (eg. Tri Council)
- Ability to problem solve in complex situations
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
