Our mission is to deliver safe, cutting-edge and environmentally sustainable maintenance and construction services to railway track owners and operators across Canada. We design, build and maintain all levels of rail for various clients.
Job Description
Thermite Welding Foreman will be responsible for leading a Thermite Welding team in planning, organizing and managing one of our rail operations. This includes ensuring track maintenance, track inspections, and upkeep on MOW equipment is done in a safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner.
This position requires overseeing teams which build and maintain rail for different clients throughout Canada and involves safely building and repairing railroad tracks, switches, crossings, etc. via Thermite Welding and general rail construction operations. It requires travel 100% of the time throughout Canada for extended periods, with work in various weather conditions and climates.
Applicants must be able to:
- Pass a criminal background check
- Pass a drug test
- Possess a Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Consider themselves physically fit
- Work outside in all weather conditions year round
Job Duties
- Meet productivity level requirements set out by Operation Team
- Plan, manage, promote, discipline and be overall responsible for direct reports
- Operate equipment and perform duties per safety policies, rules and regulations
- Experience in the safe operations of the Thermite Welding Process
- Experience in Oxygen/Propane cutting and preheating processes
- Experience in general railroad track work including rail cutting, measuring, removal, replacement, switch configuration, and track construction
- Ability to evaluate basic track work duties such as spiking, anchoring, and surfacing
- Document all necessary information on rails, paperwork; upload/email as needed
- Build and maintain railroads throughout Canada
- Operate hand-held and power tools for construction
- Detect and document faulty operation of equipment or defective materials
- Perform routine maintenance, toolbox talks, and various Foremen related duties
- Keep records and prepare reports of maintenance work
- Ensure safety is a priority by following pre-set policies and procedures
- Conduct daily inspections of machines and perform minor repairs as required
- Communicate effectively with York Rail and/or Customers Working Team(s)
- Comply with track rules and instructions according to CROR
- Fill out required paperwork neatly and accurately
- Drive company vehicles safely and responsibly
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- 3 Year minimum of Thermite Welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment
- 1 Year minimum of Thermite Welding Foreman experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment
- Thorough knowledge of the Thermite Welding process and procedures
- Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check & Drug Test
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- First Aid Certification is an asset
- Valid CROR Certification is an asset
- Prior TIGS is an asset
- Ability to travel and work across Canada based on various schedules
- Knowledge of Construction and Workplace Safety lifting and handling procedures
- Fluent in English with effective reading, writing, and speaking skills
- Physical capability to perform work in challenging conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work with hazardous materials safely
