We are looking for an Associate Manager, Privacy


Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Montreal, Toronto, London, Winnipeg.

Role description


As the Associate Manager, Privacy, you’ll work closely with our partners across Canada to provide sound privacy advice and consultation to enable the business while respecting our privacy promise. Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll identify and interpret legislative and regulatory requirements affecting the organization and provide support and assistance with the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and guidelines to ensure we meet our privacy obligations and the expectations of our customers.


What you will do:

  • Contribute collaboratively on projects to provide expert advice and guidance on awareness of relevant legislation, privacy commissioner rulings, best practices, and internal/external breaches
  • Monitor, interpret and maintain awareness to new and existing regulatory requirements, guidelines and other industry requirements to provide expertise advice and oversight of regulatory obligations.
  • Communicate new privacy risks, emerging issues, managing effectiveness and consistency of practices across the organization, assessing compliance and escalation of internal issues or risks.
  • Assist with the management of the privacy program including communication and implementing change to the existing practices through the network of privacy champions across the organization.
  • Take ownership for all privacy operations, including incident and breach record keeping, privacy rights management, privacy reporting and metrics, and the Canada Life privacy training curriculum
  • Stay informed of and provide advice on data privacy best practices, including privacy by design, to provide guidance to teams
  • Create and deliver high-quality presentations related to privacy practices, information or issues, to all areas of the company, all levels of staff/management and all sizes of audience.


What you will bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience; CIPP/C professional designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canadian privacy law (provincial and national) supported by a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an insurance/financial services industry with inherent compliance related accountabilities.
  • Knowledge of data security and data protection protocols for safeguarding personal information
  • Proven ability to understand new technological programs, processes and provide effective guidance related to complex technical projects and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate policies, processes, and systems to identify business risks and control gaps.
  • Demonstrated strength in effectively building relationships and influencing change effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Expertise in Microsoft products (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI as asset).


The base salary for this position is between $61,900 - $114,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
