Our client, a leading asset management firm specializing in private markets credit investing is seeking a Director of Finance to join its team The firm manages a significant portfolio of investment funds and is looking to expand its finance and operations division. Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Canada, the successful candidate will lead the Finance & Operations team, overseeing day-to-day financial activities and managing a team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual audited financial statements for investment products.
- Hire, develop, and manage a team of 4-5 direct reports, including fund accountants and operations staff.
- Develop and implement financial controls, workflow enhancements, and team process improvements.
- Serve as the primary contact for external accounting relationships, including fund administrators, auditors, and tax professionals.
- Lead the selection and implementation of a new accounting system for investment funds.
- Record financial transactions, including capital calls, distributions, and cash activities, ensuring accuracy in accounting systems.
- Develop and maintain capital planning and cash flow models.
- Review and validate work completed by staff, such as net asset value (NAV) calculations, investor allocations, and performance metrics.
- Support various administrative and financial projects as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (Master’s Degree preferred).
- CPA, FCCA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting designation.
- 8+ years of senior accounting and leadership experience, preferably within investment management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and investment fund structures (open-ended and closed-ended).
- Experience with valuation methodologies, private equity, private credit, and secondary investments.
- Ability to lead system implementation and migration projects.
Key Skills & Attributes:
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Leadership and project management experience with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in various accounting systems and financial modeling tools.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive base salary based on experience.
- 20% annual discretionary bonus.
