Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller position will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger and financial records of The Grid Shared Services and its Affiliated Agencies. This position reports directly to the Controller. Primary responsibilities will include the preparation of month end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, generating the monthly financial reports as required by the business, reconciliations required by taxing authorities, as well as prep for internal and external audits.



Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the general ledger by preparing and analyzing journal entries and accruals
  • Prepare monthly balance sheets, and profit and loss statements in accordance with GAAP and IFRS
  • Set up new general ledger accounts and reconcile all balance sheet accounts
  • Manage the Intercompany process and reconciliations, and prepare the necessary entries in the ledger
  • Work with Treasury, AP, Billing and AR to validate subledger balances
  • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • Analyze information by developing variance reports on a monthly basis
  • Work with the internal and external US and Canadian auditors
  • Prepare sales tax filings
  • Communicate with CRA, IRS and other government agencies regarding tax filings, payments, account balances
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller



Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Staff or general ledger accountant



Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and internal controls
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong analytic abilities
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Works well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ownership and pride in work product
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software such as Quickbooks, Netsuite or Workday



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and /or related accounting experience
  • CPA Certification a plus
  • Accounting: 7-10+ years experience (required)
