Chief of Theory About the RoleChief of Theory required for a full stack quantum computing company to lead the next generation of research and strategy in quantum error correction, fault-tolerant architectures, and theoretical foundations for scalable quantum systems.Responsibilities: Development of the theoretical backbone for quantum error correction, including stabiliser codes, bosonic codes, topological schemes, and hardware-tailored encoding.Long-term strategy for fault-tolerant architectures, noise mitigation, and realistic error budgeting.Leadership of a theory group working across modelling, simulation, numerical optimisation, error correction & architecture.Translation of theoretical insight into actionable guidance for hardware, cryogenic systems, control engineering, and microfabrication teams.Identification of constraints, opportunities, and breakthrough directions in pursuit of scalable quantum performance.Requirements: A theorist with substantial experience in quantum error correction, fault tolerance, or noise-aware architectures.Demonstrated ability to lead: building teams, mentoring researchers, and guiding collaborative scientific programmes.Strong background bridging abstract theory with practical implementation constraints in hardware or control systems.Evidence of high-level scientific communication, technical clarity, and strategic influence.Someone who thinks beyond publications, toward systems that work, scale, and endure noise.Reach out to Conor Johnston @SEER for a discussion about this or other opportunities that could be interesting.
