Job Description and Responsibilities

Join EVRAZ North America in Camrose, Alberta as a Lab Technician and become an integral part of our innovative team dedicated to excellence in the steel manufacturing industry. In this dynamic role, you will conduct critical tests and analyses on raw materials and finished products, ensuring that they meet our high-quality standards. Your meticulous attention to detail will support and enhance our production processes, contributing directly to our reputation for quality and reliability.

  • Operate laboratory and mechanical testing equipment including: bend tester, hardness tester, cutting saw, sample polisher and microscopes
  • Cut steel plate and pipe samples using oxy-fuel, plasma torch and CNC robot plasma cutter
  • Prepare and identify samples accurately and clearly and forwards to lab for testing
  • Follow detailed testing procedures and record findings as per documented guidelines, communicate results with appropriate stakeholders
  • Assist Mechanical Tester with day-to-day duties as required
  • Collaborate with all departments to meet business needs


Requirements

  • Mechanical testing experience required
  • Knowledge of ASTM,API,MIL,ABS,EN, DIN, ASME, NACE and Lloyds Register testing requirements preferred
  • Ability to read and follow detailed technical procedures and roll pages
  • Excellent oral and written communication with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong data entry skills, alpha and numeric in multiple programs
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders internally and externally to meet departmental needs
  • Experience operating equipment and machinery (lathe, band saws and milling machines)
  • Oxy fuel cutting, plasma cutting and CNC programming experience
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and work an environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise as well as operate high value lab equipment in a controlled environment
  • Willingness to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime on short notice
