Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Science and Business Intelligence Lead to join our team at the City of Toronto. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in data analysis, visualization, and business intelligence to drive strategic decision-making and improve city services.

About the Role

This senior role will lead complex data science and analytics projects, applying best practices in data science, statistics, predictive analytics, machine learning, and data visualization. You will work closely with City staff to gain an in-depth understanding of their individual business subject matter and translate their needs into actionable insights and products.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with public cloud platforms, implementing, configuring, and utilizing data analytics and visualization tools such as Redshift, BigQuery, Synapse Analytics, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow, Azure Data Factory, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, or Azure Functions. They will also be proficient in databases and data warehousing, including organizing, compiling, manipulating, analyzing, and summarizing large datasets.

You must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with City staff. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with technical staff, business unit staff, and senior management.

Responsibilities
  • Leverage data analysis and visualization techniques to inform strategic decisions and improve city services
  • Lead complex data science and analytics projects, applying best practices in data science, statistics, predictive analytics, machine learning, and data visualization

  • Implement, configure, and utilize data analytics and visualization tools such as Redshift, BigQuery, Synapse Analytics, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow, Azure Data Factory, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, or Azure Functions
  • Develop and maintain databases and data warehouses, including organizing, compiling, manipulating, analyzing, and summarizing large datasets
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Information/Data Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Applied Research, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Considerable experience with data formats, including tabular, geospatial, web services, real-time, JSON, and REST APIs
  • Experience with ETL tools and task orchestration tools such as Airflow, NiFi, FME, or Talend
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, and object-oriented programming
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with City staff
Salary Range

$140,000 - $170,000 per annum, depending on experience
