About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join their team. As a key member of the health information management department, this role will be responsible for providing accurate coding and abstraction of inpatient, day surgery, and emergency health information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely coded data
  • Maintain knowledge of Canadian Institute of Health Information standards and provincial legislation governing confidentiality, privacy, and security of health information
  • Develop and implement coding strategies to improve data quality and efficiency
  • Provide training and support to staff on coding best practices
About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • A diploma from a recognized Canada Health Information Management Association program (2085 hours)
  • Certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management and active membership in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
  • 2 years of coding experience in the health information management field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Salary and Benefits

This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $29.44-$31.57 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and long-term disability insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
