Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Device Reprocessing Specialist to join our team at Lakeridge Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient processing of medical/surgical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontaminate, inspect, sterilize, store, and distribute medical/surgical equipment to nursing units
  • Identify and process operating room instruments
  • Check and replenish medical/surgical equipment and supplies using a barcoding and inventory system
  • Prepare case carts for surgical procedures, including "stats", and operate steam sterilizers
  • Process, package, and sterilize equipment using hydrogen peroxide
  • Monitor and record information regarding equipment
  • Decontaminate respiratory equipment

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a recognized community college program (with required practicum) for Medical Device Reprocessing, or the CSAO course and at least two years' experience in MDRD (experience must be within the past 12 months)
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of cleaning, inspecting, testing, and packaging of OR, OPD, EOR, Birthing Suite, and Renal instrumentation
  • Current knowledge of anaesthetic and respiratory equipment
  • Current knowledge of E-Req System
  • Working knowledge of infection control
  • Ability to learn quickly, be precise and proficient, retain what has been taught, be decisive
  • Requires good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Physical ability to perform constant lifting (trays and other supplies and equipment), continuous pushing, unremitting pulling, and steering of carts, climbing of ladders, stooping, bending, and standing (including walking/standing approximately 90% of the shift)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, an asset
  • Previous experience in a Health Care setting, preferred
  • Must have satisfactory performance record
