Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Medical Device Reprocessing Specialist at Lakeridge Health, you will be responsible for receiving and dispatching equipment requests from various nursing areas, including the Operating Room. Your duties will include decontaminating, inspecting, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical and surgical equipment to nursing units. You will also identify and process operating room instruments, check and replenish equipment and supplies using a barcoding and inventory system, and prepare case carts for surgical procedures. Additionally, you will operate steam sterilizers, process and package equipment using hydrogen peroxide, and monitor and record information regarding equipment. You will also decontaminate respiratory equipment and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a recognized community college program in Medical Device Reprocessing or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of cleaning, inspecting, testing, and packaging of OR, OPD, EOR, Birthing Suite, and Renal instrumentation.
  • Current knowledge of anaesthetic and respiratory equipment.
  • Current knowledge of E-Req System.
  • Working knowledge of infection control.
  • Ability to learn quickly, be precise and proficient, retain what has been taught, be decisive.
  • Requires good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform constant lifting, continuous pushing, unremitting pulling, and steering of carts, climbing of ladders, stooping, bending, and standing.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, an asset.
  • Previous experience in a Healthcare setting, preferred.
