The Pharmacy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties. This position requires a team player who can provide exceptional customer service and participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations.
Key Responsibilities- Prescription Processing: Receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory conditions. Assess prescriptions for completeness, including patient information, prescriber details, and special requests.
- Computer Functions: Perform tasks as directed by the Pharmacist, including data entry, price checks, patient information updates, and prescription processing. Demonstrate competent interpretation and processing of written prescriptions, including Latin abbreviations and dosage calculations.
- Prescription Filling: Fill prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist, selecting appropriate products, performing accuracy checks, and labeling and organizing prescriptions for pharmacist review.
- Inventory Management: Maintain inventory control, assisting the Pharmacist in managing stock levels of drugs and supplies. Check for expired medications, clean the Will Call Bin, and perform other inventory-related tasks.
- General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including stocking prescription filling supplies, cleaning the dispensary, and performing other general housekeeping duties.
- Clerical Organization: File prescriptions, invoices, reports, and correspondence. Complete administrative support functions as assigned, including journals, accounts receivable, and aged trial balance.
- OTC Operations: Assist with OTC operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager and/or Pharmacist.
