Job Summary

The Student Support Liaison plays a vital role in assessing and supporting students' educational, emotional, social, and behavioural needs. This position is responsible for providing support to students to ensure they can meet their education goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and develop intervention strategies to support students' return to school.
  • Provide crisis intervention support and referrals, as well as regular student follow-up.
  • Offer personal, career, and education support and advice to students, including program planning and funding.
  • Develop and conduct student workshops to promote academic success.
  • Administer educational assessments, including academic testing.
  • Attend Employment Assistance Appeals for individual learners when required.
  • Assist students in maintaining a healthy and productive lifestyle by providing information, referrals, and advocacy on student loans, bursaries, and other sources of funding.
  • Participate in and assist with school and student activities.
  • Maintain and update student files and database.
  • Provide up-to-date information on student bursaries and scholarships.
  • Maintain written records and report regularly to the Director.
  • Provide information and conduct orientation sessions for the Aboriginal Community Campus (ACC), including programs, admission requirements, application procedures, transfer credit information, and general course and program planning information.
  • Maintain confidentiality as outlined in policy.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of CAHRD Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development Inc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Counselling experience in an adult setting, preferably in education and/or employment.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, co-operation, sensitivity, and cultural awareness.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Strong time management, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply effective problem-solving and alternative dispute resolution strategies.
  • Experience and understanding of the Indigenous community is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, database systems, and Internet use.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
