Job Summary
The Cook is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals to our residents. As a Cook, you will work under the direction of the Dietary Supervisor to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in a safe and timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Dietary Supervisor in ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and production sheets.
- Ensure that all food is stored, handled, and served in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
- Supervise and assist Dietary Aides in the performance of their duties.
- Participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff to the department.
- Attend in-service education sessions and staff meetings as directed by the Dietary Supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of culinary practices and techniques.
- Understanding of therapeutic diets and nutritional needs of the geriatric population.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to supervise.
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Proof of annual CPR recertification.
Working Conditions
This position is located in a long-term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis. Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
