Job Summary
The Excavation Specialist is responsible for excavation work and ensuring it meets proper depth and grade. They work with ground personnel in our underground operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe on line and grade.
- Operate a large excavator safely and efficiently.
- Ensure trenches are excavated to the proper depth/grade.
- Responsible for the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.
- Conduct all work in a safe and responsible manner.
- Follow directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading.
- Ability to cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule.
- Be aware of changes in soil conditions and materials that impact operations.
- Conduct trench work that meets Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Bring to Foreman's attention any irregularities in soil conditions or materials being used.
- Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc., and ensure safe work procedures are followed during lowering of materials into the excavation.
- Act in a courteous manner to project a positive company image.
- Be observant of the condition of equipment and materials used to ensure company standards are met and promptly report any possible problems or defects.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 (or better) driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
- Own transportation.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the road construction industry.
- Familiarity with materials, tools, and machinery used.
- Knowledge of the road construction industry.
- Ability to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
- Effective communication with co-workers.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
