As a key member of the Volker Stevin Contracting team, the Excavator Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of excavators on various construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures, as well as Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate, and refuel as necessary to maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to understand and interpret work area requirements and ensure trenches are excavated safely to the proper depth and grade.
  • Utilize knowledge of underground utility construction, computerized controls, and electronics to conduct trench work that meets OH&S standards.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy).
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience operating an excavator.
  • Knowledge of underground industry standards and OH&S requirements.

Working Environment:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 30 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Possible out-of-town and weekend work as required.
