We are seeking a Casual Education Assistant to join our team at School District #57 (Prince George). As a Casual Education Assistant, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs in a school setting.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students with specific drill and practice activities in academic and behavioral domains according to an education plan.
- Monitor and assist students during unstructured time, such as recess, lunch hour, and between classes.
- Perform public health level 1 non-child specific health procedures, such as daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, positioning, and transferring.
- Assist students in gaining independence in specific life skills and accompany them to community access activities.
- Participate in conferences with parents and others as directed, and observe students and record their observations.
- Score objective tests and assignments, and keep appropriate records.
- Administer medication to students as assigned by an administrator, and monitor student behavior inside the school and on the grounds.
- Promote and foster cooperative relationships, and report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
- Grade twelve education.
- Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues in children or youth.
- One year of related experience with children or youth with exceptional needs in a school, hospital, or recognized community agency.
- Ability to perform child-specific behavior management techniques, and operate or learn to operate school and/or personalized equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the language of instruction in or about the school.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and maintain confidentiality.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a school setting, and may be required to work outside in inclement weather. They will also be required to lift, transfer, and assist students as needed.
