Job Title: Education Assistant 2

Join School District #57 (Prince George) as an Education Assistant 2 and contribute to the education and well-being of students with exceptional needs.

Job Summary:

The Education Assistant 2 will work under the direction of a teacher to assist students with specific drill and practice activities in academic and behavioral domains. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with specific drill and practice activities in academic and behavioral domains.
  • Monitor and assist students during unstructured time, such as recess, lunch hour, and between classes.
  • Perform general health procedures, such as daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, positioning, and transferring.
  • May perform communication procedures and performance skill activities under the direction of specialized staff.
  • Assist students in gaining independence in specific life skills.
  • Accompany students to community access activities.
  • Assist with specific drill and practice activities and note-taking activities, such as scribing.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials.
  • Participate in conferences with parents and others as directed.
  • Observe students and record these observations.
  • Score objective tests and assignments and keep appropriate records.
  • Administer medication to students as assigned by an administrator.
  • Monitor student behavior (academic/social) inside the school and on the grounds.
  • Promote and foster cooperative relationships.
  • Report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
Requirements:
  • Grade twelve education.
  • Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues in children or youth.
  • One year of related experience with children or youth with exceptional needs in a school, hospital, or recognized community agency.
  • May require experience with specific exceptionalities.
  • May require a valid British Columbia driver's license.
  • Ability to perform child-specific behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate school and/or personalized equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in the language of instruction in or about the school.
  • Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to follow directions with regard to individualized education plans and the dispensing of medication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Working Conditions:

The Education Assistant 2 will work in a school setting, with occasional travel to community access activities. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to changing circumstances.
