Job Summary:
The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for Indigenous communities and members on the 264th Street Interchange Project. This role requires establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with local Indigenous communities, ensuring timely notification of employment, training, and subcontracting opportunities, and facilitating delivery of Indigenous cultural sensitivity and awareness training for the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Indigenous communities;
- Work closely with Indigenous communities to develop and implement the Indigenous Participation Plan;
- Participate in meetings with Indigenous communities;
- Assist construction and procurement teams to identify upcoming employment, training, and subcontracting opportunities and engage with local Indigenous communities to ensure timely notification;
- Facilitate delivery of Indigenous cultural sensitivity and awareness training for the project;
- Engage with Indigenous communities and complete regular check-ins, which may include in-person meetings, phone calls, or email, depending on communication preference, for employment and training opportunities;
- Work with Indigenous communities, ISETs, and other Indigenous organizations to identify and leverage other training opportunities;
- Participate in community activities that promote cross-cultural engagement and inclusion of Indigenous values;
- Promote local Indigenous values and foster a positive workplace culture that aligns with these values.
Reporting:
- Undertake tracking and reporting in relation to the implementation of the Indigenous Participation Plan;
- Update the Indigenous Participation Plan in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Relations, geography, archeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, business administration, or related field;
- Minimum of five years recent demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with Indigenous groups and working with Indigenous groups to provide contracting, employment, and/or training opportunities;
- Communicates clearly and effectively;
- Possesses strong organizational skills;
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills;
- Manages time efficiently;
- Possesses solid problem-solving skills;
- Able to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Other Requirements:
- Regular, reliable attendance;
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely;
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment;
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies;
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required;
- May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
Base Compensation: $70,000 - $100,000 per year. Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location.
