The City of Barrie is seeking a highly skilled Building Code Examiner to join our team. As a key member of our Building Services Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of construction projects within our community.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual with a strong understanding of the Ontario Building Code and municipal by-laws. The successful candidate will be responsible for examining permit applications, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine permit applications, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and municipal by-laws
  • Process and issue permits on behalf of the Chief Building Official
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretations to stakeholders regarding building codes and regulations
  • Conduct site inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries related to building construction and grading
Requirements:
  • Three-year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or related discipline
  • Registered Building Official with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Valid Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Qualifications in Building Services, Building Structural, Complex Buildings, General/Legal Process, Large Buildings, On-site Sewage Systems, Plumbing – All Buildings, and Small Buildings
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain and maintain the Certified Building Code Official (CBCO) Designation from the Ontario Building Officials Association
