About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Hatch, a leading global engineering and project delivery company. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing advanced geotechnical studies and characterizing materials to support the design and planning of mine residue storage facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced geotechnical laboratory and field studies, including drilling and in-situ testing, to characterize materials and support the design of mine residue storage facilities.
  • Evaluate liquefaction-induced seismic effects, detailed cone penetration test results, site response analysis, and seismic performance of mine residue storage facilities.
  • Use geotechnical software and modeling tools, such as PLAXIS and FLAC2D/3D, to analyze and optimize mine residue storage facility designs.
  • Develop geotechnical design recommendations for mine residue storage facilities and dry stacking facilities.
  • Lead junior staff and promote a culture of continuous learning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Master's degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Geotechnics.
  • At least 15 years of experience in geotechnics related to mine residue management and storage facility design.
  • Member in good standing of the Order of Engineers of Quebec.
  • Proven knowledge of geotechnical behavior of mine residues, static and dynamic liquefaction of mine residues, and relevant soil mechanics principles, particularly critical state soil mechanics.
  • Deep understanding of key principles of mine residue storage facility safety and risk management.
  • Proven experience in advanced laboratory testing and numerical modeling techniques related to mine residues.
  • Proven experience in implementing constitutive soil models with applications in seismic engineering.
  • Deep understanding of key concepts of safe, durable, and secure design, construction, operation, and closure of mine residue storage facilities, dry stacking facilities, and leachate ponds.
  • Practical knowledge of the latest global developments in mine residue management, including the International Standard for Mine Waste Management and other international organizations.
  • Professional engineering license in Canada or eligibility for a professional engineering license in Canada.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with FLAC2D/3D and PLAXIS 2D/3D modeling software.
  • Ability to review and approve technical translations from English to French.
  • Ability to travel to sites in Canada and abroad.
