Job Summary

The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is committed to providing a fair and equitable work environment and encourages applications from qualified individuals. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the proper operation of all locks and hardware on all doors, especially guest room doors, fire and emergency exits. You will also provide general mechanic duties as assigned by maintenance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Check daily maintenance board for work requests and complete forms stating time spent, materials, and parts used.
  • Attend to room calls and other service calls.
  • Keep a record of all zone, master, and sub-master keys for the entire hotel.
  • Maintain the security of the Locksmith Shop at all times and report irregularities.
  • Coordinate with maintenance managers or coordinators to meet key requirements.
  • Maintain sufficient stock of zone, master, room keys, and key blanks.
  • Keep a sufficient supply of door closers, panic hardware, and replacement cylinders.
  • Keep key masters and originals locked in a secure cabinet.
  • Perform routine checks and repairs to fire and emergency exits and smoke doors.
  • Maintain and update records of all zone keys, master keys, and sub-master keys issued.
  • Log saflok problems and procedures with Shift Mechanics.
  • Train new shift and general mechanics in saflok operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on safloks and accessories as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Carry a local pager during shift and check for proper operation.
  • Observe fire and safety regulations on the job site and elsewhere in the building.
  • Comply with hotel policies and procedures, including health and safety.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by maintenance managers or in their absence, the duty manager/night manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the locksmith field.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment required.
  • Practical knowledge in locksmithing.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Exceptional customer service capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
  • Energetic and flexible, with the ability to work in stressful situations.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Able to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and overnight.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to walk distances and ascend/descend flights of stairs.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Agility to stand, bend, squat, stretch, and kneel.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs (22 kgs).
